HyperSnap-DX

HyperSnap-DX is a powerful screen capture tool that comes complete with image editing tools. The program can limit recording to a selected window or a rectangle area on the screen. The program also captures DirectX output properly, which can often result in black screens during regular screen captures. You can choose to record audio and optionally annotate a scene with various shapes or speech bubbles. The program is easy to use, you can pause/resume recdording via keyboard hotekeys, and also adjust the frame rate to achiever higher or lower quality videos. Due to the usually large file size, the AVI video clips are mostly useful for offline usage (CDs, DVDs etc.), rather than publishing on the web.

ACA Capture offers a nice array of features, unfortunately the images can only be saved to JPG, BMP or PNG, not to .GIF format, which is still the most popular format for low color images on the web.

WinCAM 2000 Professional is an easy to use screen recording and editing application, developed for tutorials, training manuals and presentations. It records all screen activities, from the movement of the mouse, the processes of applications, keyboard input to the execution of any programs. WinCAMs object editing tools allow you to insert various shapes of caption boxes, graphics, images, narration, background music, and sound effects in all different layers. In addition, frame-by-frame editing tools will help to make your movie look clean and give it a professional looking cut. The resulting movies can be converted to EXE, WCM and AVI - additional conversion methods and features are available in higher priced editions of the software.

BB FlashBack

BB FlashBack is a Windows screen recorder program, that enables you to capture desktop activity in real-time, like a movie, and then export it to Flash, AVI or standalone EXE file. You can also edit the movie, add annotations which allows users to create and edit movies of their own desktop activity. Movies can be exported to Flash, WMV and AVI and can include sound and annotations. The program is easy to use, and requires little or no technical expertise - just click record and stop when you are done. BB FlashBack is not as sophisticated as the competition, but it costs a good deal less and produces very good results.

Capture By George! is a screen capture program that provides an on-screen capture area with a small remote control style control panel. Capture By George! only supports selected areas, and cannot automatically capture active windows, client areas, dialogs or other parts of the desktop. Other features include timed capture, options to rotate, scale and crop the captured images. The capture can be saved as GIF, JPG, PNG or BMP file.

Miraplacid Screen Capture

Miraplacid Screen Capture lets you save screenshots to JPEG, PDF, TIFF, PNG, BMP and TGA image files, or it can directly send them to your paper printer. It uses the default Print Screen, and allows you to specify which action to take when the PrtScreen button is pressed. You can preview the captured image, change color settings, size and more, then save it in the format of your choice. The screen capture features only offer full screen and active window capture and it lacks support for GIF images. However the option to save as PDF file as well as the enhanced printer support are not often found in screen capture tools.

5 clicks - Screen Capture Program

5 clicks is a very easy-to-use and simple screen capture program. It takes only 5 clicks to start the program, capture an image anywhere on the screen and close the program. You can save the captured image as a PNG, JPEG or BMP file (no GIF support), copy it to the clipboard or send it to your printer. Even though very easy to use, the program is also limited to manual area selection and cannot automatically capture the active Window, or client area as most other screen capture programs. Great if all you need is a basic and speedy way to capture screen content.

Belltech ScreenSmart

Belltech ScreenSmart allows you to take windows screenshots easily. After capturing the screen image you can edit the image, add your text, highlight an area and more, then save, email or print it. ScreenSmart offers cut, copy, paste, crop image functionality as well as features like the zoom in, zoom out, flip horizontal/vertical, invert color, make image black and white etc. Additional features include hotkey support to activate captures and a auto-capture option. The program has many nice features but can only save to BMP and JPG format, while most shareware competitors can save to GIF as well. Since GIF is definitely the most efficient format for Windows screen captures, we consider this to be a major disadvantage. (Note: The reason for not including GIF format in some applications is not due to lack of ability by the author, but due to a hefty licensing fee involved, since GIF is a patented format)

Screen Miner is a full featured screen capture tool that can capture full screen and active window snapshots, as well as controls, fixed regions, rectangles, polygons, and ellipses from your desktop. In addition, you can use the software to record AVI videos of your screen activity, complete with cursor movements and all. It includes several image manipulation options like flipping , rotating, resizing and various effects. Screen Miner can save to different formats including JPG, GIF, TIF and also JPEG 2000.

Screen Printer

Screen Printer captures the entire screen, the active window or a user defined area. The captured images may be printed and or saved to disk. Screen Printer comes with a thumbnail viewer to view the images that have been captured. The images may be captured by using the Print Screen key on the keyboard or a custom "Hot Key". Saved images may be edited using the image editor. Here tasks may be performed, such as cropping of the image, flipping the image horizontally or vertically, increasing or decreasing the image size, changing colors, etc. Screen Printer may be set to capture the screen at a preselected time. Up to 24 times may be set. Images may be used for wallpaper on your desktop.

Screenshot Utility is a small screen capture program that resides in the system tray. When you press a hotkey combination, it captures and saves a snapshot of your screen to a JPEG, GIF or BMP file. The program allows you to define your own hotkeys, choose a default path for saving files or select an area to capture (entire screen or active window). In addition, you can set message or sound alerts.

Easyscreen is a simple screen capture tool, that allows you to save screenshot in JPG format, or send them directly to the printer. In addition, you can add custom text or the current date to the captured image. It supports capture of dialog elements such as pull-down menus and tool bars, as well as batch conversion to JPEG. The program is limited to JPG and BMP format.

RabidSoft s CaptureIT!

CaptureIT is a batch screenshot utility, that allows you to capture entire web pages from a text file of URLs. The captures include the entire page without scrollbars or browser window. The captures can be saved in JPG, GIF, BMP, TIFF or PNG format. It works fine with full size captures, and also offers to capture a thumbnail version, however the quality of the thumbnail or resized versions is so poor, that they are barely usable.
